In 2013, we had a dearly loved labrador, Maggie-May. We were considering adding a greyhound to our family, and one day when out walking with Maggie, I met a lady with two beautiful greyhounds. She told me that they had come from the Coventry kennels for retired racers.

Shortly afterwards, we made an appointment to go and see for ourselves, taking Maggie with us. We were warmly welcomed, and shown several dogs. We chose Peter, a tall black dog who was 4 years old. He was so tall that Maggie could walk underneath him! After our home check, he came to live with us in his new home. He settled in amazingly well, considering he had never lived in a house before. The biggest challenge was learning to manage the stairs, but it wasn't long before he was navigating them to the manner born. He enjoyed going out for walks with Maggie, who gave him confidence while he was settling in.

Sadly in 2015, Maggie came to the end of her days. So Peter had no doggy companion. We hadn't really talked about having another dog. However, whilst looking at the Coventry website, I happened to notice that there was a black bitch with the same date of birth as Peter - could it be???? - yes, some investigation revealed that she was Peter's litter sister, Emma! The rest is history - we brought her home on Easter Saturday. She settled straight in, no stair problems for her. We were - and still are - overjoyed.

It is so amazing to have the two of them, we have never regretted our decision. We have loved all the dogs we have had over the years, but the greyhounds hold a very special place in our hearts. They truly make "greyt" pets.
